2016 – Typhoon Nina

Super Typhoon Nina - barangay of Pantao, Libon, Albay

On Christmas Day (December 25, 2016), super typhoon Nina swept across the Philippines forcing people to celebrate in evacuation centers. The typhoon cut off power to millions, and severely damaged or destroyed homes in communities around the Philippines. Entire towns in some of provinces were evacuated while streets and farms were under ankle-deep water and some homes destroyed or are caked in mud following the flooding.

The barangay of Pantao, Libon, Albay was one of the most hit areas where the entire province lost electiricity and destroyed the homes of the people including their boats which is their only source of livelihood. Through our 2016 fundraising event, we were able to raise enough money for 7 boats. Our public relation officer, Francis Macalalag took a trip to the Philippines to visit his family and was able to tour the typhoon hit areas and able to check on the boats we financed including meeting one of the beneficiaries.
